INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION: FORESTRY INTERN: MICHAUX STATE FOREST
Intern will assist foresters and managers with GPS/GIS work on state forest trails, infrastructure, and habitat mapping and analyses. College coursework in geosciences, landscape ecology, watershed management, recreational ecology, and GPS/GIS is preferred as intern will continue to learn and expand their knowledge in these areas. Opportunities will be given to attend appropriate training.
Description of Duties:
Intern will assist foresters and forest technicians in trail and habitat mapping/analyses using geospatial technologies such as GPS, LIDAR, on-line trail platforms, and GIS.
1. Conduct trail assessment and mapping for priority trail projects.
2. Conduct assessments of road /stream crossings using NAACC offline data collector and then upload assessments into the database.
3. Survey and mark leased campsite boundaries and develop GIS layers and attribute tables for lease inspection and special condition tracking and reporting.
Intern works under the direction of a forester or manager.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This internship is designed for students to gain experience in forest management and operations related to recreational opportunities within an assigned state forest.
This internship requires a valid driver's license. The student will travel to remote sites within the assigned state forest.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time internship.
- Work hours are Week #1: (Mon-Fri) 7:00am - 3:30pm. Week #2: (Mon-Thurs) 7:00am - 4:15pm; (Fri) OFF.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:
- Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor’s degree, associate/2-year tech program or advanced degree program in an acceptable major.
- Freshman year completed.
- Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher).
- Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university.
Preferred Qualifications:
Students in the following majors:
- Forestry
- Biology
- Environmental Science
Additional Requirements:
- You must have a valid driver's license.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
